Display technology is based on the state of the art semiconductor technology and it involves various applications of physical, electrical, electronics,
mechanical, materials, chemistry, etc. For display, the industry is activated earlier than the research and development of schools, and manpower of related field is required rapidly. Taking the demand of industry into account, “the introduction to display engineering” was published to be used as a textbook for undergraduate students in Sungkyunkwon University, Korea. The book published about 7 years ago was in Korean. Since globalization is the trend in these days.

The textbook is reviewed and is published in English after 3 years of long and lengthy work efforts.

Chapter 1 is the overview of a flat display. Chapter 2 will focus on FET and semiconductors which are basic ideas of LCDs, so that readers can understand thin film transistors (TFT) better to be dealt with in Chapter 2. In Chapter 3, liquid crystal displays (LCD) will be described in detail, especially focusing on an AM-LCD which is the most common mode in relation to LCDs. Liquid crystal types and their ovement dynamics are discussed in Chapters 4. Chapter 5 covers driving method for a display panel. Chapter 6 will deal with the overall concept of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). Chapters 7 probes new types of flexible displays. Chapter 8 will cover the principle and practice of microdisplays. In Chapter 9, plasma discharge and plasma display panel (PDP) related technology will be covered. Various display system now employs finger-tip touch screen. Chapter 10 focus on the various touch screen related concepts. Chapter 11 will focus on CRT, field emission display (FED). These types of displays are invented based on how electrons migrate under an electric field and a magnetic field, Chapter 11 will start from both theoretical electron movement theoretical perspectives. Chapter 12 will cover three-dimensional displays that were developed recently. In the last chapter 13, the current status of the whole display systems and the prospect for the various types of display systems will be discussed.
We hope that this book is useful for those who are related with display industry as well as for students studying display engineering. We thank everyone who helped us to publish this book.
